Skopos is built for cinematographers who care about their work and their tools. We've built it to do as little with your data as possible — and this document describes what that means in practice.
Skopos has no servers and no user accounts. We do not collect, transmit, or store your information on any system we operate. Scout data — locations, projects, shot lists, reports, and photos — lives on your device, in your photo library, and (when you choose) in your own iCloud account.
Network calls go only to Apple services (WeatherKit, MapKit, StoreKit, iCloud) using your own Apple ID, and only to perform the function you've requested. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking framework of any kind.
Skopos does not collect, request, transmit, or retain any of the following on a system we control:
Personal identifiers (name, email address, phone number). Account credentials. Device identifiers used for tracking. Usage analytics. Telemetry. Crash reports sent to Skopos or to a third-party analytics service. Advertising identifiers. Browsing history.
The app's Privacy Manifest (filed with Apple) declares NSPrivacyTracking = false and an empty NSPrivacyCollectedDataTypes array, both of which Apple validates against the binary at submission.
Skopos uses several iOS capabilities to perform its core functions. Each permission is requested only when needed and used only for the purpose listed below. Sensor data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted off your device by Skopos.
All scout records — locations, projects, shot lists, reports, and the metadata of photos and videos you've attached — are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This database is not transmitted to Skopos.
Photos and videos you capture in Skopos are saved to your Photos library, in a dedicated Skopos album, the same way photos taken with the system Camera app are saved. They are governed by your iCloud Photos settings, if those are enabled.
If you have iCloud Drive enabled on your device, Skopos stores its working files — reference photos, exported reports, and project documents — in a Skopos folder inside your iCloud Drive. This sync happens directly between your devices and Apple's iCloud service using your own Apple ID. Skopos does not host, mirror, or have access to a copy of your iCloud Drive contents.
You can disable iCloud Drive sync for Skopos at any time in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive.
Skopos uses Apple's MetricKit framework to capture local diagnostic reports — performance metrics, hangs, and crash backtraces — generated by the operating system about its own behavior on your device. These reports are written to a Diagnostics folder inside the app's local container and surfaced in the Settings sheet, so you can inspect or share them with us if you want to report a problem. They are not transmitted automatically.
Skopos relies on several first-party Apple services to perform specific functions. Network requests for these services are issued by Apple's frameworks on the device and are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Skopos does not see, mediate, or retain copies of these requests.
If you have enabled Share With App Developers in iOS Settings ( Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements ), Apple may share aggregated, anonymized usage and crash statistics with Skopos through App Store Connect. This is an Apple-operated, system-level mechanism. The data delivered to us is aggregated across users and is not personally identifying. You can disable this at any time in iOS Settings.
While Skopos is in beta distribution via TestFlight, Apple may additionally provide us with crash logs and tester-submitted feedback associated with your TestFlight account, in accordance with Apple's TestFlight terms.
When you export a scout report as a PDF, share a photo, or send a location via the iOS share sheet, you are sharing that data yourself, with the recipient or service you select. Skopos doesn't see, intermediate, or retain copies of those shares. The privacy practices of any third-party destination (Mail, Messages, AirDrop, Drive, Dropbox, etc.) are governed by their own policies.
Skopos is a professional production tool intended for adult use in film, television, and commercial production. The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. (As described above, we don't knowingly collect information from anyone.)
Because Skopos does not maintain personal data on a system we control, there is no profile to access, correct, or delete on our end. To remove all Skopos data, delete the app from your device and remove the Skopos folder from your iCloud Drive. To remove photos captured with Skopos, delete them from your Photos library.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, the rights granted to you by GDPR, UK GDPR, and the CCPA apply to any personal data we hold. As described above, we hold none.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date and revision number above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
Questions about this policy can be directed to hello@skopos.studio.
